123! Official Jin Sei Kai Syllabus

Introduction to the Official Jin Sei Kai Syllabus
Every Jin Sei Kai adult student starts training as an implied 10th Kyu (White Belt). 'Kyu' means grade, for learning/training purposes. Subject to making satisfactory progress and attending at least 20 formal classes within a three to six month period, adult students will be invited by Sensei to undertake their first formal Kyu grading - in order to attain 9th Kyu (Red Belt) status.

Thereafter, gradings up to and including 3rd Kyu (Brown Belt) may at Sensei's invitation be undertaken at three monthly intervals, subject to satisfactory progress and class attendance.

Between 3rd Kyu and Shodan, students should anticipate that grading intervals may be extended from three to six months, particularly that period prior to attempting Shodan (Black Belt 1st Dan). 'Dan' means degree, for learning/training purposes.

Jin Sei Kai members are encouraged to think of the grading process as a lifelong journey, in which the individual seeks to excel as best he or she can. That journey is not competitive, nor should a student feel that he or she is being compared to peers. JSK values each student as an individual and for his/her own unique abilities and talents.

The Official Jin Sei Kai Syllabus, as at 1 January 2008, is set out below. Do refer to the guide to Japanese Karate words and phrases in the Library for further explanation of the Japanese terms used in this Syllabus. Also, remember that Sensei Perry may choose at a grading to test a student in different techniques from those shown in this Official JSK Syllabus! Back to top
